Under 5’s

The initial meetings focus on understanding both your and your child’s perspective about what is difficult, as well as your experience of one another. For pre-schoolers, this is achieved primarily through the quality and content of their play, together with noticing how you are impacted by one another.  Meetings take place both with and without your child, in order to begin to think together about they type of intervention that is most helpful.

Typical therapy to help young children is often a combination of play and talking therapy. Sessions that take place all together focus around the communications of your child, which due to their age, largely takes place through the medium of play and the nature of their ways of interacting. By paying attention, we can begin to see how they view the world and their relationships. This helps them to develop healthy ways to manage what they feel, as by being actively interested in the mind of your child, this lets them know that whatever they feel and think is bearable. Along with this largely play based therapy, separate adult sessions allow you to talk about the challenges you face as a parent and understand the strong feelings that your child inevitably stirs up in you.

In combination, this helps to build a stronger relationship between you, for you to feel more confident as a parent, for your child to feel happier within themselves and for their difficulties to resolve.
